The Swaffham History Group is an independent group which is closely linked with the museum and shares its archives. Members pay an annual nominal fee and meet once a month at the museum. Its function is to gather information about the heritage of the town – its buildings, its history and its people - which it presents to the public in talks and brochures. It also organises visits to local museums and places of interest for members.
Its “Book of Swaffham” compiled in 2012 is still the most comprehensive and readable history of the town. Since then, it has also published a series of monographs on several aspects of the town, including a sequence on the pubs of Swaffham. Most recently and with funding from Heritage England, it was a major contributor to a website on the buildings of the Marketplace which will continue to be developed and expanded in future years.
